We run Page to Stage on a voluntary basis, putting on five events a year to give new writers a space to see their work professionally directed and performed, with feedback from a carefully selected panel. Our venue is the iconic Water Rats, near Kings X. For each event, deadlines and information are posted on our website and on social media - firstly for writers and then, once the scripts have been chosen, for actors and directors.

2025 events: Mon 20 Jan, Mon 31 March, Mon 26 May, Mon 28 July, Mon 27 October.

How Does Page to Stage Work?

FOR EACH EVENT, THIS IS THE PROCESS:

  • 1st call-out: Writers are invited to submit a new script of 10 mins (either a self-contained piece, or an excerpt from a longer play).
  • Four scripts are chosen, and all applicants contacted.
  • 2nd call-out: Breakdowns for the four pieces are posted, and actors and directors are invited to apply.
  • The four pieces are cast, and each is assigned a director.
  • An industry panel is brought together (comprising established playwrights, theatre directors, literary managers etc.), who will give feedback on the night.
  • The full programme is announced.
  • Cast and directors meet on the night, with an intense 1½ hours to rehearse.
  • Each piece is performed as a directed rehearsed reading, after which the panel gives their feedback to the writers. The discussion is opened out to include the audience.
  • Informal discussion continues in the bar afterwards.

Who is Page to Stage London For?

WRITERS
This is the perfect platform to see your writing on its feet, and to receive constructive feedback from industry professionals and an engaged audience. It is a theatre experience ‘in the moment’ – i.e. direct responses on the night. The event takes place in central London.

DIRECTORS
The event is a great showcase to demonstrate
your ability to handle the challenges of working to a tight timescale, with actors performing script-in-hand.

ACTORS
Strong rehearsed reading skills, a good stage CV, and clear, articulate delivery are essential requirements for performing at Page to Stage London. It’s a great way to demonstrate your skills and your support for new writing.

AUDIENCE
You see actors and directors bring the writing to life, and how the industry panel respond to the pieces. And you are invited to share your thoughts on the pieces, too.

NOTE FOR PARTICIPANTS:
Each event has a unique programme of pieces, with its own specific call-out for directors and actors. Those who have taken part in a Page to Stage event before are very welcome to do so again, but applications are needed per event.
